It’s your journey
Get an early start
As early as 3 months before you’re 17th birthday you can apply for your licence.
Once you reach 17 you can drive legally on public roads in the UK.
You can practice legally on private gated land (with permission) but not in supermarket car parks, as they are currently classed as public roads.
Check your eyesight before starting by reading a car number plate from a distance of approximately 5 car lengths away. Don’t worry if you need glasses or contacts to do this and whilst learning to drive.
Theory test

A multiple choice section.
The hazard perception (clips) section.

Practical test
Currently costs £62 for cars and lasts about 40 minutes.
Your instructor can go with you if you want.
Before you go out on the road, you will do a basic (car number plate reading) eye sight test and be asked one safety question.
You will drive in various traffic conditions and independently for about 20 minutes following directions (either from a satnav or various traffic signs) but most importantly you are being tested on how safely you drive throughout.
Your examiner will tell you at the end whether you have passed and give you helpful feedback. You will only fail if you make 16 or more driving faults or any serious or dangerous faults.
If you use our car for your test, it is completely valeted, (free of charge) so that it is every bit as ready for your opportunity, as you are on the day.
